Celebrities turned out in full force to honor Philadelphia philanthropist Charles “Charlie Mack” Alston for the inaugural American Benefactor Foundation held at the Academy of Natural Sciences in July. Mack, a manager, producer, and community volunteer, was recognized for his efforts to launch the new Charlie Mack Cares Center in West Philly. Philly DJ Kendra G and Extra TV’s AJ Calloway emceed the evening, which included funny but thoughtful speeches from Mack’s longtime friends Will Smith. Mayor Nutter and ABF founder Marla Green DiDio also took the podium to talk about the importance of giving back to the community. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails and a mac-and-cheese bar in one of the museum’s galleries.
