Harvey and Maddy Rovinsky are best known in Philly as the owners of Bernie Robbins Fine Jewelers, but the couple’s friends and family will tell you that they’re also notable for the incredible parties they host. Having thrown summer bashes at their Longport house for the past 25 years, they’ve mastered the art of relaxed and chic down-the-Shore entertaining. Here they give us their top five tips for throwing beach house parties that’ll keep people talking well past Labor Day.
1. KEEP IT SIMPLE
First and foremost, remember that all it really takes is great weather, great friends, great food and great vodka!
2. SET THE SCENE
Take cues from your surroundings when decorating for the party. Think nautical colors or pink and orange hues inspired by the setting sun.
3. KICK IT OLD SCHOOL
Try playing oldies as a throwback to classic beach bashes.
4. HIRE A CATERER
Or pick up premade food. You’d rather be enjoying the weather than slaving in the kitchen. Caterer Glen Matteo, who recently opened a café in Margate, makes the best lobster rolls.
5. FOCUS YOUR FOOD
Fresh, local and seasonal ingredients such as seafood, tomatoes and blueberries should be the focal point of your menu.
