'Tis the Season

IT'S THE HOLIDAYS in Philadelphia. Just step out onto the cobblestone paths of Old City or the bustling pavements in Rittenhouse Square, and you’ll feel a frenzy of energy in the air.

After a couple of holiday seasons during which national retail growth looked bleak, Philly has seen the local economy progress with leaps and bounds. Since 2009, 92 new restaurants and food-related businesses have opened in Center City, along with 187 other new retail destinations, according to a Center City District survey. That’s impressive growth, and it’s a positive sign that businesses are thriving (just walk by the newly opened Apple Store any day of the week to see what we mean).
