At the beginning of the year, I attended a press conference, held by the City of Philadelphia and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, announcing a new campaign called With Art. The roomful of journalists, concierges, and museum chairs listened with rapt attention as the new two-year citywide initiative was laid out in one meticulously detailed PowerPoint presentation, with a little comedic relief from Mayor Nutter. With the Barnes Foundation set to open in the coming months, With Art would be the well-oiled marketing machine to relay to the world that culture thrives in Philadelphia.

Nearly six months later, it’s amazing to see the vision become a reality. The Barnes is finally open, the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Van Gogh Up Close will be remembered as one of its most popular exhibits ever, and the Rodin Museum will cap off its series of major renovations with a grand new garden, opening in July. Such a game-changing period of growth in the city is perfect timing for our annual Best of Style feature.

We celebrate culture, of course, but also the very best in dining, shopping, beauty, and design. As the world discovers Philly’s vibrant arts scene this summer, people will also have a chance to try a hot new restaurant or pick up something special at a local boutique. A read through this issue’s rich Best of Style section will offer plenty of suggestions for whatever experience they hope to find in Philadelphia. We are only too happy to help.
