“Rich, deep colors are the trend for fall, and the dominant oxblood red is a color that evokes the richness of the season,” says Neiman Marcus personal shopper Dina Karamanides. No doubt this is the reason it was such a staple on the fall runways: From accessories to outerwear, evening gowns to daywear, the shade figured prominently in collections from designers as diverse as Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci, Alexander Wang, and Derek Lam. It was a trending topic in beauty as well, to be found on the lips and nails of models everywhere.

According to Karamanides, oxblood will play a key role in Neiman Marcus’s fall offerings. “Some of my favorite pieces are The Row’s skinny leather pants, Jason Wu’s black dress embellished with oxblood-red beading, and a Lanvin cocktail dress with a long shrug,” she says, adding that oxblood is a fitting accompaniment for typical cold-weather wardrobes here in Philly. “Philadelphians tend to wear black during the fall and winter months.” The Bordeaux hue offers a modern, warmer twist to these dark silhouettes. Pair it with black, navy, or even green for easy, season-appropriate elegance.
