Beloved clothing designer and CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg just added more to her bountiful plate with the debut of her DVF Home Collection, a line of tabletop, bedding and decorative accessories. Here, she shares her inspiration and vision for her newest foray into the design world.
What is home: “I believe that the home is a sanctuary and an opportunity to express one’s style and individuality.”
Interplay between fashion and home: “I wanted to inject the home category with the same bold and glamorous style aesthetic evident in my runway collections. DVF Home will help create a personal and expressive environment in which to entertain and live. It was a natural evolution for the DVF brand to go into home and design, as my fashion collections are pattern- and textile-heavy.”
Philosophy: “Most elements in the collection integrate seamlessly, so you can mix and match patterns and styles to whatever mood you’re in.”
Inspirations: “I am inspired by the nature that surrounds me and my contemporary art, as well as vintage and current fashion prints from the DVF runway collections. Women are such a source of inspiration, too.”
Patterns: “My three patterns—Urban, Sun and Country—are influenced by my favorite destinations around the world and by my own home.”
Design aesthetic: “I would describe it as colorful, eclectic, harmonious, functional and fun.”
Personal style: “I believe in timelessness for my clothing, and that applies to my home as well.”
The perfect bed: “For me, it’s all about a great mattress and clean sheets.”
Easy design tip: “Add new colors to existing ones—it’s a great way to brighten a room.”
