As the days grow longer and the air gets warmer, the Jersey and Delaware shores will be heating up. Summer means delightful days on the beach, in a boat, or by the pool, and languid nights dining on the deck or enjoying a concert at The Mann Center. Watchmakers understand the season's laid-back spirit and happily capture the mood with colorful, practical timepieces.
“Contemporary and fashionable Philadelphia women want to add a splash of color to their summer wardrobes with vibrant and playful watches. Our customers have found these pieces to be an affordable, fun, and functional way to wear the hottest colors of the season," says Caroline Kallman of Govberg Jewelers. Match them with every bikini, sarong, or sundress, and make a personal statement with each turn of the wrist. Look for dynamic hues, interesting styling (such as sparkling crystals), a little water resistance, and a weather-it-all rubber strap that is easy to wash and wear.
Ice Watch designed this bold yellow beauty ($125, Platinum Jewelers, 404 South St., 215-923-9191), crafted in resin with a coordinated sunray dial and rubber strap. Each water resistant piece features luminescent hands and markers.
The TechnoMarine Cruise Original Lipstick watch ($495, Govberg Jewelers, 1521 Walnut St., 215-546-6505) is made of water resistant stainless steel and features chronograph functions and a unidirectional rotating bezel. The fuchsia-colored silicone strap gives a spirited pop of color.
Officina Del Tempo's Vanity watch ($620, McGarry's Jewelers, 312 N. Second St., 215-627-2901), made in Italy, is a water resistant quartz timepiece (available in a variety of stunning colors) crafted in stainless steel that features alluring crystal baguettes on the bezel and crystals on the mother-of-pearl dial. The rubber strap is imprinted with a floral motif for added femininity.
From Skywatch, this ladies' 38mm three-hand watch ($295, Tourneau, King of Prussia Mall, 610-491-8801) offers luminescent hands and markers for easy night and underwater reading. Stainless steel with a bright orange bezel and a white silicone strap with signature sky-blue strap keepers, it is water resistant to 100 meters.
