One of Philadelphia’s biggest events of the year, Hair O’ The Dog may not be until this Saturday (January 19, 9 ), but the excitement has been building for weeks. To get the inside scoop on what to expect this year, we caught up with Hair O’ The Dog marketing director/expert Buffy Morgan. Read on and purchase tickets to this exciting evening at hairothedog.com. Loews Philadelphia, 1200 Market St., 215-627-1200
Why is Hair O' The Dog such an important event?
BUFFY MORGAN: It’s the way Philadelphia collectively solves its New Year's Eve hangover—it’s fun yet sophisticated! The event allows everyone to get dressed up and have a good time, while helping others. This year we are raising money for Friends Are By Your Side.
What does Friends Are By Your Side do?
BM: Founded by celebrity stylist Martino Cartier, Friends Are By Your Side brings salon owners and stylists together to help women who have lost their hair due to battles with cancer. Friends Are By Your Side, along with Cartier and Hair O' The Dog, will crown The Queen O' the Dog to one enduring woman who is currently battling cancer. The winner will receive two VIP tickets to the event, limousine transportation courtesy of Luxury Limousine, an elegant dress, custom attire by Daniel Morroni for her date, airbush tanning by Skin Palette Contempo Spa, and a beautiful wig by Martino Cartier. There will also be a special crowning presentation during the event.
What will be different about the event this year?
BM: We have added additional entertainment and went all out with our modern disco theme. Also, everyone is considered a VIP this year and will have access to both ballrooms. We have also created an ultra-exclusive area for bottle service attendees and sponsors on the 33rd floor at The Loews "Studio 33," which overlooks Philly’s city skyline.
What can attendees expect in terms of the “jaw-dropping” entertainment promised?
BM: Be ready to wag your tail off—Philadelphia's favorite band Split Decision will be playing this year. Madonna’s tour DJ, DJ Enferno, will be performing his live remix project featuring an intense LED light show provided by Vu Productions. He will be joined by other top Philly DJs: Royale, Eddie Tully, and Perry Angelozzi. Live pop art painters Glenn Stevens and Perry Milou will create masterworks available for auction and Jewelz Entertainment will present elaborately costumed entertainers, strolling tables, and shadow box dancers.
We hear the afterparty will be amazing as well. What can guests expect from that?
BM: Attendees will be partying till the “bark o' dawn” at G Lounge. Open until 6 a.m., anyone with a ticket will receive a complimentary continental breakfast. DJ MikiWAR of Manufactured Superstars will be spinning with opening sets by DJ Ghost.
