Aunyea Lachelle, host of NBC 10’s Philly Live, talks role models, Will Smith and her on-air style.
Tell us about Philly Live. We launched last September, weekdays at 11:45AM, and hit the ground running. The first week I was there I did a private lesson with Billy Jean King for a story on World Team Tennis, and then I interviewed Patti LaBelle that October over mac and cheese.
What’s new for 2020? The concept is still very much the same as when we launched: We want to take you off the beaten path in your own backyard. You can watch on YouTube, Facebook Live, the NBC 10 app or television, so it’s very accessible.
Who is your dream interview? Will Smith is one of my dream Philly celebrity interviews. I also would love to interview idols like Oprah, Michelle Obama, Shonda Rhimes and Beyoncé.
It’s obvious that you love fashion. There have always been pretty strict rules around what women are supposed to wear in television news. It’s so cool and liberating that I’m able to express myself through fashion on the show.
Who are your role models? My family. They own a nonprofit education center in North Philly. I was surrounded by female entrepreneurs growing up. Working hard was never an option—it was a necessity.
