When we last wrote about Addison Bay (addisonbay.com) in August 2018, owner Marguerite Adzick had just opened the digital doors to her swanky multi-brand e-tail destination made for fitness fanatics looking for fashion-forward, high-performance activewear. One year later, the Wyndmoor native has shipped over 10,000 orders to 42 states; opened a retail space at Balance in Chestnut Hill; launched exclusive products to Addison Bay; and hosted over 100 pop-ups in Boston, DC and Nantucket. Kicking off her first birthday celebrations, Adzick talks her business journey, where to find her in Philly and a new kick-butt fitness series.
It’s Addison Bay’s first birthday! Talk to us about your journey so far.
In September 2018, we launched with 22 labels, and now we carry over 40 different fashion-forward activewear labels, including products exclusive to Addison Bay. Our exclusive Addison Bay blue camo leggings sold out in less than a week after launching, and we currently have a waiting list with more than 100 people. Everything is going really well—my beautiful daughter is now 15-months-old and on the move. Building a business while raising an infant has definitely been a challenge, but my hope is to inspire her to go for it and the best way I can show her is to lead by example. One year later and I’m so proud of what we have built at Addison Bay headquarters. Startup life is definitely a rollercoaster: there are highs and lows all day, every day. I’m extremely impressed with how my team has handled the lows, and am proud of us for hitting some milestone highs.
Let’s get to know you! Where are some of your favorite places or things to do in the city?
Parc is my favorite restaurant in the city. My family and I eat outside at the iconic restaurant once a week—it’s kid-friendly, great for people watching and always serves a great meal. On the weekends, rain or shine, you can find me running along the Schuylkill River with my daughter in the jogger. The waterfront views of the Philadelphia skyline combined with the trail along Boathouse Row are a special duo.
And what about the new fitness series? What can you tell us about that?
The idea to launch an Addison Bay Event Series originated around the same time as the inception of the company—it has been on the business plan from the very beginning. The end goal was to create a dedicated workout space featuring classes with celebrity instructors, top fashion-forward activewear brands and provide our customers with a unique experience that has not existed in Philadelphia...until now. At each event, attendees will have the opportunity to sweat with well-known fitness instructors from Philadelphia, NYC and DC, shop from Addison Bay and spend time with like-minded fitness friends. Immersing the brand into the community is one of our top priorities. By engaging ambassador groups of driven athletes and inspiration wellness professionals, we hope to harness their passion to elevate Addison Bay within our communities.
Is there anything else coming up after the series?
In November, we are launching an exclusive label that will only be carried at Addison Bay! For eight months, we have been designing, producing, fabric sampling, fitting and building our AB private label with an incredible in-house team. The exclusively carried label is called OTG, short for ‘on the go.’ OTG was born from the idea that activewear should go beyond the gym and fashion-forward doesn’t mean less function. OTG will launch in November, right in time for the holidays.
