This couple’s patriotic Union League wedding was the perfect celebration of their love—both for each other and for their country.

Hillary Landau, a physician, and Cyrus Western, a Wyoming politician, made their wedding dreams come true with a red, white and “Carolina blue,” all-American theme—a nod to Hillary’s years at UNC Chapel Hill and Cyrus’ career. With its rich American history, The Union League of Philadelphia was a natural choice for the 165-guest affair. The couple, who originally met in 2015 in Boston while Cyrus was attending Harvard for his master’s and Hillary was attending Tufts for her MD/MBA, danced their first dance to Harvest Moon—as the groom grew up dancing Western swing at street dances in Wyoming. “He totally rules at spins and dips!” says Hillary, who donned a Carolina Herrera gown for the big day.

A custom wedding crest was created for the couple in their signature colors, adorned by hydrangeas (a nod to the bride’s parents’ summer home in Southampton, N.Y.) and antlers—an ode to the groom’s love of archery hunting. Before cutting into their citrus cake with American buttercream frosting, the couple recited their own personal vows, which they had not done in their Catholic ceremony, ending their special day on a sweet note.
