WHAT’S NOW Filming the new Netflix show Rhythm + Flow, out this fall

WHAT’S NEXT IFC’s Sherman’s Showcase; and the holiday musical Jingle Jangle, also on Netflix

Philly-born film and television producer Mike Jackson doesn’t get home much to visit friends and family these days. Rest assured, however, that Philly is never far from his mind, no matter how hectic things get for the co-founding partner and producer at Get Lifted Film Co., a venture he shares with one-time local John Legend. “Philly is about always hustling,” says Jackson, who is spending time in London this spring for an upcoming film project. He’s also hard at work on two new television series under the Get Lifted production umbrella, IFC’s Sherman’s Showcase, a scripted variety show; and Net Netflix’s first music competition program—and a show dedicated exclusively to hip-hop and rap—Rhythm + Flow with judges T.I., Chance the Rapper and Cardi B. “Whether it was the morning after we won the Tony Award for Jitney or the Emmy for Jesus Christ Superstar, we did not rest on our laurels,” says Jackson, who was an executive producer for the Oscar-nominated La La Land. “ That’s the Philly mentality: always the underdog, always grinding.”
