Always a highlight of Berlin Fashion Week in January, German fashion label Marc Cain was an especially coveted ticket for the Fall/Winter 2019 collection. The runway show was the first presentation to feature clothing from Katja Konradi, Marc Cain’s new managing director design and brand. Founded in 1973, the contemporary womenswear line has only three boutiques in the U.S., one of which is at the King of Prussia Mall’s new luxury corridor.
Dipping into the brand’s archives for inspiration, Konradi’s riff on brand staples like prints and outerwear were paired with of-the-moments trends like neon and animal prints. With 50 looks in the show, models stepped out onto the catwalk from the backdrop of a chic train station. Amidst so many statement looks, Konradi’s pick for Fall/Winter 2019’s must-have piece is decidedly more versatile. “It would be the chunky sneaker for sure, which looks fantastic as cross styling with a tailored suit, as well as casual skirts and dresses, or comfortable jeans,” she says.
European fashion influencers Caroline Daur and Leonie Hanne lined the runway decked out in Marc Cain’s signature prints and punchy-colored pantsuits. Also spotted sitting alongside owner and founder Helmut Schlotterer was actress Sarah Rafferty. The auburn-haired star of USA’s Suits is the latest celebrity to collaborate with the brand. The new “True Bag” is the ultimate ladylike accessory with its neat silhouette and top-handle detail. “We wanted to design a handbag that was classic, chic and functional. It’s large enough to contain all your essentials and has a crossbody strap so you can keep your hands free for your phone or a coffee.” The bag is available in three classic shades—black, cream and aubergine—and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Plan International, Rafferty’s charity of choice.
