Soak up the sun in Dr. Erum Ilyas’ new collection of smart-fabric separates.
Dr. Erum Ilyas has been a dermatologist on the Main Line for almost 15 years. A typical day for her means seeing a number of patients for routine skin exams, and while each patient is different, Ilyas began to notice a trend. “I recognized that there were these patterns of sun damage and a consistency in people’s responses,” she says. “[They say] ‘I wear sunscreen at the pool or the beach,’ but the real question is: do I need to wear sunscreen every day?”
The answer is always a resounding “Yes!” But for many, slathering on sunscreen daily isn’t so easy. That’s why Dr. Ilyas launched AmberNoon (ambernoon.com) late last year, a collection of “smart attire” that incorporates designs and fabrics to shield skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
“[Our fabrics] have protection built in, thanks to the weave of the textile, and the design covers areas people often miss when applying sunscreen,” she says. The clothes are also on-trend, and made to wear to work, on the weekends, or, for Dr. Ilyas, her son’s soccer games. “I wanted styles that could fit into any environment,” she says.
