Sometimes, it’s hard to pull together an outfit when temperatures spike. But don’t sweat it—we have Philadelphia’s trendsetters offering their best tips and tricks for standout summer wear.
“I’m particularly excited that this summer is continuing to trend towards a sleeker take on the fashion we all came to love in the early 2000’s. I just watched Sex and the City for the first time and am all about the Carrie Bradshaw-approved square necklines, strappy sandals (hopefully no one gets mugged for their Manolos), and sheer ruffles that I’m seeing these days. Going along with this trend, but also being conscious about only buying pieces that can be worn for years to come, I’d consider the must-have for this season to be a timeless silk midi skirt.”
“Oversized linen suiting has taken the ready-to-wear world by storm! Energize your wardrobe this season with bright saturated colors (think lavender and citrus shades) as seen on European designer Aèryne Paris. Pair with bike shorts and white Senso sneakers for a runway-ready look. More traditional? A linen belted blazer by Acler in neutral tones pairs perfectly with a summer dress and light denim.”
“This summer is all about looking for an alternative to the traditional tan khaki suit. With outdoor weddings, garden parties and stylish brunches, opting for a chino suit in tobacco (like mine from Philly's MODA MATTERS) or an olive green will make you stand for all the right reasons. When it comes to footwear, it's time to dip your toe into the ‘ugly sneakers’ trend, but in a more refined way. The bulky, techni-color Triple S by Balenciaga set the streets ablaze; however, mainstay brands like Cole Haan and Kenneth Cole have taken those saturated colors away and slimmed down their silhouettes that make for some standout kicks."
“This spring/summer, I'm taking on the puffy cold shoulder sleeve trend! I love spring fashion because it automatically makes me feel a little extra girly! I play around with more accessories, like belts, bags and hair stuff. However this season, the cooler the sleeves the better! I'm totally down for a cropped puff-sleeve top this spring/summer. They have the right mix of sexy yet sophisticated."
