This St. Patrick’s Day, we’re turning the focus from green domestic beer to local Irish establishments that churn out authentic flavors all year round. Grab your friends and family to celebrate the occasion at one of five recommendations from our friends at Yelp.
Enjoy classic Irish dishes made only with the freshest ingredients, and sourced locally, at McKenna’s in Havertown. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this BYO serves up something for everyone at any time of the day. 1901 Darby Road, Havertown
Chances are, you may already know the patron saint of all things Irish in Philly: Fergus "Fergie" Carey. Fergie runs several of the city’s best watering holes, but you’re most likely to run into him at his namesake pub. There are several entrees that pay homage to the homeland, including an all-day Irish breakfast, shepherd’s pie, and bangers and mash. 1214 Sansom St., Philadelphia
Like an old friend, The Bards is your trusty, tried-and-true tavern that always welcomes you back. Expect all your Irish favorites on the dinner menu, plus Guinness, Smithwicks, Harp and Magners—all permanent drafts. 2013 Walnut St., Philadelphia
In the market for some Irish whiskey? You’re in the right place at Black Sheep Pub, which has an entire menu devoted to the hard stuff. Pair your whiskey with a hearty meal, like the Guinness-battered fish and chips. 247 S. 17th St., Philadelphia
Grab a pint and catch a game at this laid-back pub in Fairmount, which boasts a food menu full of American classics with an Irish twist. Check out the shredded lamb tacos and Irish bacon grilled cheese, made with a seven cheese blend and served on brioche. 1701 Green St., Philadelphia
