Stand-up comedian Bill Bellamy, of Mr. Box Office fame, brings his “Ladies Night Out” tour to the Helium Comedy Club on October 17-19. We chat with the funnyman about his career, which comedians he'd love to tour with, and more.
What compelled you to pursue a career in comedy?
BILL BELLAMY: What made me want to be a comedian was the excitement of the crowds and the delivery of material on that stage. It's an electrifying craft.
What inspires your work?
BB: My work is inspired by challenges. Whether it's on a movie screen, on [a] TV screen playing a character, or being myself on stage as a comedian. It's all hard work that pays off with practice.
If you could tour with any other comedian, whom would you choose?
BB: That's a hard question but I have to put together the hottest comedians of right now. Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Mike Epps, Chris Rock, and Katt Williams.
What advice would you give to up-and-coming comedians?
BB: My advice is to get on stage and learn the craft. You can be popular on the Internet but you become a talent by honing your tools in front of real audiences.
How has Mr. Box Office shaped your career?
BB:Mr. Box Office has given my fans a place to see me on a daily basis and share laughs with their families. It brings everyone together.
