Comedy’s top brass grab the mic during a string of can’t-miss shows at the Academy of Music.
The Academy of Music puts a whole new spin on the term “talk show” when four major male stars serve up some well-rehearsed comedic chitchat. Here, the top acts hitting this historic stage in late fall.
Who: Anthony Bourdain What: Candid commentary on culture, travel, and street eats from the celebrated chef and host of CNN’s Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown followed by an open question-and-answer session. When: October 26 Why: His anecdotes of far-off voyages and tell-it-like-it-is demeanor make him the travel companion you wish you had.
Who: Steve Martin and Martin Short What: Blithely titled “An Evening You Will Forget For the Rest Of Your Life,” amigos Short and Martin share playful jabs and honest conversations about showbiz. Plus: musical numbers with Martin’s bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers. When: October 28–29 Why: Because an epic snowstorm upstaged Short at this year’s Academy Ball.
Who: Lewis Black What: The critically acclaimed stand-up comedian, actor, and author teems with unbridled sarcasm and absurdity for “Lewis Black The Emperor’s New Clothes: The Naked Truth.” When: November 5 Why: No other comedian has mastered the art of the rant while communicating compelling social, economic, and political issues quite like Black.
