Debbie Permessur and Anthony Scaria’s fairy tale started back in high school—and 11 years later, the sweethearts made it official with a swanky soiree at the Downtown Club.

HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEARTS Debbie Permessur and Anthony Scaria met in 2007—when Debbie was a junior and Anthony was a senior at the Townsend Harris High School in New York City. Fourteen years after their love story began, Anthony popped the question at Longwood Gardens with an oval solitaire diamond with diamond eternity band. “Anthony told me we were going to his co-worker’s wedding so I would be dressed up,” says Debbie of her surprise proposal.

Ten months later, Debbie donned a Pronovias gown as she walked down the aisle of Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul, the very same church where she was baptized. Later, the couple’s 196 guests gathered at Cescaphe’s Downtown Club in Old City, where cocktails were sipped from an espresso martini ice luge.

No detail was spared, from the roses and baby’s breath dotting the tables to a shoe shiner on hand in the men’s bathroom. “We are the last and youngest siblings on both of our sides to get married, so we had to honor all of the people that got us where we are today,” says Debbie, who displayed the wedding photos of family on a “generations of love table.” “Our wedding was basically a huge family reunion, which we loved!”
