Devon Winter is making waves in a traditionally male-dominated industry—manufacturing. The daughter of the founder of F.W.Winter Inc & Co, Winter initially saw her role in the company as temporary while pursuing her higher education. However, she soon realized the potential for more streamlined operations and began learning the business inside out.
Winter takes up space in negotiating rooms, representing her company in discussions that affect various industries such as steel, automotive, aerospace, oil and gas. She recognizes the need for more female representation in this industry—making up only 29% of the manufacturing workforce—and hopes to change the statistics by inspiring and empowering more women to pursue nontraditional careers.
“I am motivated by the fact that I can be a source of inspiration and positivity for women, especially in the manufacturing industry,” she says. “I hope to use my platform to show others that it is okay to take up space in an industry that is ‘nontraditional.’"
This Dynamic Woman’s journey in the manufacturing industry hasn’t been without its challenges. Managing F.W.Winter Inc & Co during the COVID-19 pandemic, global logistical issues and international conflicts have tested her resilience as a leader. She is passionate about mentoring students in her community and sharing her experiences overcoming challenges.
In addition to her role at F.W.Winter Inc & Co, Winter is an active member of various organizations. She joined the Board of Women in Manufacturing in 2020, which aims to support and empower women in the industry, and the council for the International Chromium Development Association in 2023. Looking toward the future, this Dynamic Woman aims to expand F.W.Winter Inc & Co through partnerships and acquisitions—she is undoubtedly a trailblazer in metals and manufacturing.
