Scores of eager locals, sporting white from head to toe, gathered in Philadelphia yesterday evening for one of the city’s most anticipated yearly events, Dîner en Blanc. Nearly 2,500 guests were in attendance for the unforgettable soiree (which sold out in 24 minutes), hosted by event coordinator Kayli Moran and Dîner en Blanc’s Natanya DiBona.
Known worldwide as a “très chic picnic” where a highly visible public space is transformed into a white wonderland of dining and dancing, Dîner en Blanc is now in its 25th year (though it’s a relatively new concept in Philadelphia). Beginning at 7 p.m., participants flocked to their assigned meeting spots before being led to the final, secret destination where the event would occur.
Upon arrival at the covert location—which turned out to be the JFK Bridge at 30th Street—guests set up their white tables and chairs and dined on the gourmet snacks they each brought along. The sounds of jazz group, Carte Blanche, were heard throughout the evening. A final surprise to end the fantastic event: Terrence J. Gatsby proposed to girlfriend Natalia Gamarra among a sea of sparklers.
