Modero Dance Company performs a traditional Indonesian dance at the 2019 World Heritage Celebration
Philadelphia is honoring its status as a World Heritage City with a virtual celebration hosted on Sept. 10. Despite its digital setting, an array of world-class artists will be displaying their talents—from orchestral symphonies to poetry—at the annual festivity. The City of Brotherly Love officially joined the Organization of World Heritage Cities in November 2015, which cemented its position as the first location in the United States to earn this distinguished title. Uniting with 280 other culturally remarkable locations, such as Vatican City, Berlin and Machu Picchu, Philadelphia earned a global reputation for its historic significance in the birth of a nation. As for the event, there will be a segment commemorating the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Music Director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, for his melodic contributions to the global community. Other international performers, such as The Bacon Brothers, Vai Sikahema, Ali Velshi, Lang Lang, Jeff Bradshaw and Marilyn Russell, will also be demonstrating their virtuosity to create a night to remember—all from the comfort of your home. As well, U.S. Junior Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, has prepared a tribute poem dedicated to Philadelphia. globalphiladelphia.org
