Take picnicking to new heights, indulge in one of Philly’s finest burgers and more this month.Chef Bobby Saritsoglou of Stina
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER
Banana leaf-wrapped steamed sweet cassava cake, Javanese palm sugar and pandan-infused coconut milk cream compose the delectable ketimus—a yummy Indonesian sweet cake that’s naturally gluten and dairy free and vegan. Indulge in the dish, and more, this month at Bobby Saritsoglou’s Stina (stinapizzeria.com) as its Guest Chef Series and Charity Dinner continues with Diana Widjojo of Hardena on June 21. Need a sneak peek at the menu? Think pecel (fresh veggie salad, fried enoki mushroom, grilled tofu, radish, herbed peanut dressing and rempeyek with anchovies), sambal kerang (clams in coconut milk sambal, noodles and watercress), ayam betutu (Balinese chicken, lettuce wrap and rice crunchies) and rendang kambing (slow-cooked goat in coconut milk, candlenut and aromatics served with golden turmeric rice, kale and jeruk dressing). Talk about a feast.
Outside dining at Rat’s Restaurant overlooks the Grounds for Sculpture property.
POSH PICNIC
As if a day spent at Grounds for Sculpture (groundsforsculpture.org) wasn’t tempting enough, it’s even harder to decline thanks to a program from the outdoor museum’s eatery, Rat’s Restaurant (ratsrestaurant.com), and Constellation Culinary Group (constellationculinary.com). Upon arriving at the sculpture garden, featuring stunning pieces like “A Turn of the Century” by Seward Johnson and “Carmelita” by Autin Wright, explore the 42 acres until you find the perfect picnic spot. Curated by chefs at the country-style French restaurant and Constellation Culinary Group, Picnic in the Park offers guests the full package for two, including food, wine, tumblers, flatware and napkins. Select from the Mediterranean dip duo and tapas sampler to start off the extravaganza before diving into your chosen salad and sandwich. With choices like oven-roasted turkey BLTAs, tuna nicoise salad, roasted sirloin beef sandwich and more, the only decision left unmade will be where to set up your blanket. Our suggestions? Th e “Dorion” (Bruce Beasley), “Eolith” (Isaac Witkin) or “If It Were Time” (Seward Johnson).
The Huda Burger impresses, layer upon layer
BETTER TOGETHER
Meet the Huda Burger: a dry-aged patty on a Huda milk bun roll, topped with luscious cheddar cheese, refreshing chopped vegetable salad doused in an herbed buttermilk dressing and crispy bacon lardons. Th at is the masterpiece experienced on June 7 during a.kitchen (akitchenandbar.com) Burger Night with Huda, including Yehuda Sichel. Served alongside the classic a.kitchen burger, the evening’s menu is also bound to be dotted with a few Huda-inspired small plates. Wrap it all up on a sweet note, with a seasonal take on the Rittenhouse Square eatery’s coveted cinnamon rolls. Complement it all with a bottle from a.kitchen’s James Beard Award-nominated wine program.
