Bonbons, truffles and candy apples, oh my! This Halloween, local candy and chocolate shops are offering delectable and festive goodies in every sweet flavor and spooky shape you can imagine. Put down your bag of mixed candy from the grocery store and pick up some gourmet treats to get you in the Halloween spirit while satisfying your sweet tooth.
Anthony’s Italian Coffee & Chocolate House
While Anthony’s originally specialized in Italian coffee, they opened their Chocolate House in 2003 to offer homemade chocolate and gelato. With Oct. 31 around the corner, they are creating scrumptious confections with festive designs and flavors. Besides Halloween chocolate pops, chocolate-covered marshmallows and chocolate-covered three-ring pretzels, Anthony’s is making two signature treats: Ghost Apples, which are caramel and chocolate-covered apples with spooky faces, and chocolate-dipped mummy pretzels that have candy eyes and drizzled chocolate to look like mummy wrap. 903 S. Ninth St., 215.627.2586, italiancoffeehouse.com
Shane’s Confectionery
A Cinnamon and chili ghost truffle is just one of the sweet flavors that will fill Shane’s Confectionery’s limited-edition chocolate boxes. Called “Sweet Hereafter,” the box of sweets is inspired by the history of the intersection of food and death rituals. The box will come with an illustration and story that inspired the chocolates, as well as a handmade skull candle from Philadelphia Bee Co. 110 Market St., 215.922.1048, shanecandies.com
Éclat
Home to one of the world’s top chocolatiers, Christopher Curtain, Éclat continues serving seasonal favorites that excite both the eye and taste buds—including their newest pumpkin pie domes. Made with locally sourced pumpkin and 54% couverture chocolate, these spiced pumpkin ganache sweets are the most decadent Halloween treat to share or savor. 24 South High St., West Chester, 610.692.5206, eclatchocolate.com
Mueller Chocolate Co.
Treat yourself to Mueller Chocolate Co.’s spooktacular Halloween treats. Their milk chocolate pops come in the shape of bats, pumpkins, ghosts, scarecrows, skulls and Frankensteins—or, as they call it, “Dr. Chockenstein.” The shop also serves up candy and chocolate apples in 11 delectable flavors, including apple pie, milk chocolate sea salt and caramel peanut. Pick these treats up online or in-store for your Halloween celebration. 51 N. 12th St., 215.922.6164, muellerschocolate.com
Lore’s Chocolates
With half a century of chocolate-making experience, the Walter family has made Lore’s Chocolates a staple in Philadelphia. This Halloween, they are offering candy apples, pumpkin spice and chai latte caramels, dark spiced wafers, pumpkin marshmallows and chocolate-covered Oreos decorated with ghosts and more. You won’t BOOlieve all the spooky sweets they have available this year. 34 S. 7th St., 215.627.3233, loreschocolates.com
Aurora Grace Chocolates
Carving pumpkins may be a popular Halloween tradition, but what about breaking chocolate pumpkins to eat? This season, Aurora Grace Chocolates, home to expert chocolatier Aurora Wold, will have hollow milk and dark chocolate pumpkins painted in orange with gold stems. They may look too elegant to eat but are too tasty to devour. 517 S. Fifth St., auroragracechocolates.com
