Harry Connick Jr.
What was the inspiration behind starting your entertainment show Harry? HARRY CONNICK JR.: We wanted to create an hour-long escape for viewers. It’s a party in the day time with comedy, live music, real people, celeb interviews, and lots of surprises.
What would you say is the greatest part of your job? HCJ: Getting to meet amazing people on my show and in my audience. We’re featuring so many good people—dignified people who care deeply for their families and have strong work ethics. It’s fulfilling for me to be around people like that.
When viewers tune in, what kind of guests and performances can they expect? HCJ: It’s heavily musical, extremely spontaneous, and different from anything else out there. We have celebrity guests, but also celebrate everyday folks in extraordinary ways. I also have my band with me—these are musicians I play with all the time, have a close relationship with, and who are good at playing any and everything at a moment’s notice. They can pull off any kind of whim I have.
What's your go-to spot when you come to Philly? HCJ: You know I have to head over to South Philly when I’m in town for a cheesesteak. I’m actually heading over there this afternoon after my appearance on The Q.
You are a jack of all trades in the entertainment industry, a singer, actor, and now variety show host. Is there anything else you would you like to take a stab at? HCJ: I’m really enjoying this right now. There’s music, there’s talking to people, there’s listening to people—there are so many different places to go that it may be the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done. For me, it’s the perfect scenario.
