Forgot to book a hair appointment? Don't panic. Artur Kirsh of The Studio CL shows us how to do four trendy salon styles at home. From family dinners to the big New Year's Eve bash, you'll have great hair for the rest of the holiday season.
"First, it's important to prep your hair—day-old hair will be easier to style than freshly washed hair. It will also hold the updo longer. If your hair is freshly washed, use some styling products to give the hair some hold and texture.
"The trick to great holiday hair is to put a twist on simple styles. Use basic styles such as ponytails and braids and even add extension pieces for extra fun. Each of the styles shown here starts with a basic ponytail or braid."
Braid Bun: "Simply wrap the braid around the base and use a few bobby pins to hold it in place."
Side-Bun Twist: "The second look incorporates an extension that is pinned into the ponytail. Pin the extension and then twist all the way down, blending the natural hair, twisting until the hair coils come back up and form a unique shape."
Festive French Braid: "This one is easy. Create a loose fun braid and add festive hairpins for an added touch."
Twist Updo: "The last look is a simple twist. Incorporate all the hair into the twist, but not in a strategically placed way. Leave loose wisps of hair around your face for a softer look."
"Keep your updo together by using bobby pins. Crisscross them for a stronger hold and try to match the color of the pin to the color of your hair. Give the style a spritz of hair spray or gel spray once you're finished." Studio CL, 128 S. 19th St., 215-496-0604
