Let’s go back 5 years. I am 43 and my daughters are 12 and 14. We are at the Women’s March in DC…January 2017. I looked out from our hotel window that morning to see thousands of women gathering. There was electricity in the air. We walked to the Washington Monument, and I remember stopping and taking a moment to take it all in. At that time, I adored my corporate job but had been there 12 years and knew I wanted to build something. I thought: I am going to start my own company. I am going to do it so my kids can see a woman in her 40s start something from scratch and build a business. I am going to have them help.
From the very start, I knew there would be meaning behind each piece and I knew it would be JEWELRY. I knew that I would make everything feel very special, from the quality of the pendant to the beautiful packaging. Inspired by moments in my life that made me who I am, I started sketching the coins: a design on one side with a word to bring it to life on the other. Just like a real coin, each piece is double sided and meant to be worn either way (two necklaces in one!). I worked with a caster on Philadelphia’s Jewelry Row to create the first prototypes. We had a launch party in December 2017 where our entire family worked together to introduce the collection to the world.
We now have 10 collections, each focused around a word: LOVE, PROTECT, HOPE, FOREVER, BALANCE, PEACE, JOY, FREE, LUCKY, STRONG.
Many ask - why coin jewelry? I was inspired by the nomadic people in Europe circa 1900 and their coin jewelry. These travelers created jewelry from their money. It was meant for more than adornment; it was a decorative method of transporting their wealth. They showed off what they had with their jewelry. I realized that my own wealth is based on life experiences rather than my finances. I wanted to ‘show off’ these milestone moments that make us who we are. The coins allow us to mark an occasion while giving us something to hold on to – a physical reminder of a memory or event. Finding Love. Marriage. Losing people we love and finding peace as we remember their impact on our lives. Divorce and finding a new confidence and freedom. Having children and the joy that comes along with being surrounded by family. Jane Win is the perfect gift for yourself or for someone who needs a reminder of their milestone moment.
