Although designer Katherine Lundberg creates gorgeous restaurant and hotel spaces, she knows that home is where the heart is.
If you’ve ever found yourself within Kalaya or Pizzeria Beddia, it’s more than likely that you’re familiar with Katherine Lundberg’s work. What began as an early career with URBN as a key creative behind Anthropologie quickly grew into a hotelier and interior designer for some of the most curated restaurants and hotels in the greater Philadelphia area. “I design spaces with a highly curated, composed and artful eye,” Lundberg says. This method translates into home design, as well, where the designer emphasizes the importance of investing in pieces that bring happiness and peace. She adds, “When a home feels chaotic or doesn’t align with the lifestyle or personality of an individual, there is a disconnect that can lead toward other disruption.” Here, Lundberg lists her top investment pieces for the home now.
“Silk rugs, whether solid or subtle in pattern, can ground a space yet still allow for a lot of other textures and layers to co- exist. It’s the type of thing you’ll have forever and even want to pass along to the next generation...should they be so lucky!”

“Whether looking for new home office furniture, a dresser or a living room credenza, I love the bold look of USM. These modular systems come in a handful of colors, and you can even configure your own design on their website. These sleek and industrial pieces bring a touch of simple modernity that will last you decades and perform under pressure.”

“A pair of vintage statement armchairs can create glamorous ‘bookends’ in an arrangement or even stand alone. Research what you love and keep a lookout. Participate in auctions or second-hand stores.”

“I have used the Pitt burners on a few projects, and these can really make a compelling statement by saying less in a kitchen. For those who crave a minimal and sleek solution to a stovetop, these burners push the envelope of what an appliance footprint can be.”

“Lighting is one of my top fixations on any project. I believe statement lighting can be a proxy to art due to how it can command a room. Santa & Cole has become a go-to for exactly this reason.”

“A single or a series of just three taper candles on a dining table or sideboard can be so dramatic. I love these tall 15” tapers—they’re so simple yet striking and harken an old- world feeling. Plus, everyone looks better in candlelight, right?”

“I spent months trying to track down plumbing fixtures for my personal renovation, which would evoke clean lines yet showcase the natural properties of the metal and develop a beautiful patina over time. This small batch supplier was a pleasure to work with and delivered on quality.”
