Since Katherine Risk, originally from Wayne, spent her childhood visiting Nantucket, the island was the perfect spot for her to wed fiancee of almost two and a half years Lauren Barrett. The couple, who met performing comedy and improv in Chicago in 2017, also lived on Nantucket during the pandemic, which deepened their connection and love for the island. On a foggy day in September, the barefoot brides recited their own vows and were married by a friend in front of their loved ones. Although it was pouring on the beach just 30 minutes prior to the ceremony, the weather cooperated for the big moment. “It was unbelievable that the clouds and fog parted just in time,” says Katherine. Guests then walked a dirt beach road through wildflower fields for the reception at Bartlett’s Farm, where cups of clam chowder were waiting on tables named after local wildlife species. Oysters, crab cakes, scallops, lobster tail, freshly baked bread and homemade Nantucket sea salt butter followed (despite Lauren forgetting to eat) before the newlyweds danced all night to songs performed by The Love Revival Orchestra and a coconut-and-vanilla-flavored cake by Wicked Island Bakery.
