FOUR WHEEL DINE
Spice up your next night out with dinner in a restored 1949 Chevy Truck. Painted fire engine red and housing a private diner cabin (previously the flatbed), Exit Zero Filling Station (exitzero.com) is unlike anything you’ve experienced. “Those two words Chevy and truck are about as American as apple pie and just as nostalgic,” says Owner Jack Wright. “It harks back to a time when American-built items were done properly. It feels good to restore a beautiful old vehicle like this and have it as one of the stars of our whole restaurant experience.” The truck, situated on a working gas station site, is customized to hold up to eight guests and offers an electric fireplace, retro 1960s vibes and delectable bites: think burgers, lobster mac-and-cheese and milkshakes, as well as twists on Indian and Thai curries.Whether you spot a shooting star or point out the constellations, you won’t forget a night with Cape May Lighthouse Climbs.
LUCKY STARS
Nothing quite beats a starry, moonlit night at the Shore. Ascend to the sky during a warm summer evening with Cape May MAC’s (capemaymac.org) Cape May Lighthouse Climbs. Whether you choose the full moon offering (available through October 28) or Stairway to the Stars (on new moons, through November 13), attendees will go up 199 original, cast iron staircase steps to the Watch Gallery for unbeatable views of the Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean 156 feet below. “Climbing at nighttime is an extra-special experience— the nighttime breeze, the stars, and reflections of the moon are beautiful, romantic and inspiring,” says Director and CEO Jody Alessandrine. As you make your way to the top, check out the interpretive panels on the landings that tell stories of the Lighthouse Keepers, the surrounding area and how the structure functioned historically. To see the most constellations, the new moon climbs are the way to go, as the invisible moon and dark sky don’t dull the twinkling stars.
