Dr. John Lee is a renowned oculo-facial plastic surgeon who has performed over 10,000 eyelids surgeries. Driven by his philosophy that “less is ALWAYS more,” he strives to provide optimal facial rejuvenation with minimal surgery. He is known for his innovative eyelids surgical techniques and his meticulous injectables application.
1. What's the most popular cosmetic procedure for eye concerns at your practice right now?
Lower lids fat removal surgery. This procedure takes less than an hour and patients love the quick recovery and permanent results. There is misinformation that this procedure causes lower lids hollowness. On the contrary, it just unveils your natural anatomy without the puffiness and shadows caused by lower lids fat.
2. What is the most common concern that you address in your practice?
Lower lids filler treatment to address hollowness and dark circles is one of my most requested filler treatments. However, not everyone is an ideal candidate. If you have pre-existing puffiness, you can experience more noticeable swelling as the filler expands and migrates, causing the lower lids skin to stretch.
3. Do you have a favorite procedure?
Upneeq eye drops have brought about awareness of “ptosis” or eyelid muscle weakness. In 10 - 15 minutes, I can permanently provide the same results achieved by Upneeq. I have been performing the mullerectomy ptosis correction procedure for almost 20 years and love how it gives people with “sleepy” eyes an alert appearance.
4. Tell us how injectables can enhance surgical results.
For 20 years, I have been utilizing my micro-dot Botox injection technique to lift and shape the brows to complement the overall appearance of the eyes—which has always been my focus. With ongoing Botox treatments, I believe that people can avoid or prolong having more invasive surgical procedures.
5. What's the best piece of advice you have to share with people who are interested in a cosmetic eye procedure?
Choose a surgeon who specializes in the anatomy that you are interested in addressing. A “less is more” approach is always the safest. I have seen patients who only needed eyelid surgery and Botox and/or fillers but forehead, brow and facelift surgeries. More surgery is not always the best option.
