New June is known for its incredible floral designs such as these tiered cakes adorned with sweeping fresh spring peonies, wild flowers, poppies, ranunculus and vibrant pressed florals.
Like many during the height of the pandemic, Noelle Blizzard, who works at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), was stuck working from home in need of a creative outlet. Quickly realizing that she was baking too many sweets for her own household to consume, she started selling them—donating the proceeds to fundraisers. And then, she turned it into an educational baking journey, learning how to make anything and everything that she would want to see on her own imaginary bakery menu. This meant a perfect sourdough starter, laminated pastries, croissants, brioche, cookies and cakes. In June 2021 the imaginary became real as she opened her own bakery in Manayunk, New June (newjune.com), and in early 2022 launched a full suite of wedding services and elevated designs for brides and grooms. Blizzard’s menu is filled with stunning cakes dotted in florals—an ode to her experience at PHS—in flavors like lemon raspberry jam, coconut cream and chocolate espresso. “Our designs feel really organic, beautiful, elegant and sometimes wild and surprising, guided by what is available that season,” says Blizzard, who loves the “love story” behind every wedding cake. “I love that behind every wedding cake is tradition, and that its intended outcome is one of the happiest days in a couple’s life together. It’s a lot of fun and brings me so much joy.”
