An Easy New Years Eve: 10 Fantastic Dinners for a Night to Remember

By Bernie Rodgers | December 22, 2020 | Food & Drink

With NYE approaching, the event might not be the typical turn of the season filled with Champagne, parties and comically oversized “2021” glasses. Yet, there’s no reason not to celebrate safely. Here’s a round-up of 10 venues offering an excellent assortment of dishes for a night to remember.

The Wayward’s Grand Plateau

Inspired by the adventurous spirit of powerhouse humanitarian Stephen Girard, this restaurant is a fusion of American classics and the elegant atmosphere of French bistros. This NYE, they’re offering their seafood tower to-go. The Grand Plateau package includes a ½ lb Nova Scotia lobster tail, Marie Rose Thousand Island caviar, a dozen oysters, niçoise tartare and Gulf shrimp cocktail.

While this Old City staple is reputable for its signature brunch, the high-end eatery is now providing a prime rib feast fit for two-to-four people. Expect chef George Madosky’s mouth-watering dry-aged prime rib followed by Oysters Rockefeller, wedge salad, truffled mashed potatoes and a chocolate mousse for dessert. To preorder, please visit Tock;

Hyatt Centric Center City

Stationed in the Rittenhouse District, the Hyatt Centric location is offering a $10,000 NYE package set to exceed all expectations. After a 12-minute private fireworks show, take a ride in your personal limousine before benign showed to the Presidential Suite. For dinner, expect a four-course meal of Maine lobster tail and Wagyu beef accompanied by a plethora of delectable sides—think truffle confit marble potatoes, foie gras demi-glace and Florida stone crab claws. Not to mention, the package includes 21-dozen long-stemmed roses, breakfast-in-bed and personalized Tiffany & Co. champagne flutes. To book your package, please call Brian Lang at 215.982.4905,

Walnut Street Café

Celebrate the end of 2020 with a bang thanks to Walnut Street Café and AKA University City’s new partnership. Book a room for up to three hours—or just splurge for an overnight—for a memorable in-suite penthouse dining experience. For NYE, the restaurant is offering two special menus featuring three- and five-course options with mouthwatering dishes like oeufs mayonnaise, ribeye steak and short ribs. Make the evening even sweeter with a chocolate ganache and pomegranate sorbet. To reserve the in-suite dinner, please book here;

Le Cavalier

Local restaurateur Tyler Akin recently opened this modern French brasserie in Wilmington’s HOTEL DU PONT—and it’s worth the hype. To ring in the new year, they’re supplying a three-course meal with an array of options. Entrees range from bouillabaisse with saffron-shellfish broth, branzino, swordfish and shrimp to a grass-fed bavette steak served with pomme purée. Also, there’s a variety of small plates, such as foie gras mousse with blood orange marmalade and chestnut soup with black truffles.

You might have NYE dinner covered, but what about the first day of 2021? Start the new year off right with a brunch for four. The package includes smoked salmon, viennoiserie, charcuterie, quiche lorraine and a yogurt parfait with granola and fresh berries.

Executive chef Jon Cichon is serving a New Year's feast to-go so you can enjoy all of his delicacies from the comfort of your home. Expect an impressive number of options, such as osetra caviar, foie gras torchon, prime rib, black truffle mac & cheese and rack of lamb.

Chef Christopher Kearse’s Old City French bistro is going all-out as we transition into 2021. Forsythia’s five-course meal package includes paté en croûte, old school maitake, black truffle crab cake, babas au rhum and short ribs with smoked shallots. Pre-orders must be placed via phone or website by Dec. 29.

Jet Wine Bar

Bring Jet Wine Bar’s world-renowned wines home thanks to the NYE package. Three wines and a cheese board are included, like the sparkling rosé from Ca’Furland, Italy and a wild rosemary goat cheese. The special is priced at $99 and must be pre-ordered via phone.

Talula’s Daily

There’s a reason why owner Aimee Olexy’s 12-person tastings have a seemingly endless waitlist—you can see for yourself with this special NYE menu. Guests can choose from an assortment of a la carte options, such as brunch dishes featuring a pastry tray with a vegetable frittata or entrees ranging from tender braised brisket to Eastern shore crab-cakes. All orders must be placed by Monday, Dec. 28.
