The Philadelphia Collection returns this fall with more than 75 events—runway shows, in-store parties, trunk shows, and panel discussions—slated to take place September 18–25 across Center City and its surrounding neighborhoods. “This is our fourth year, and the event continues to shine a spotlight on Philly fashion and retail,” says Michelle Shannon, vice president of marketing and communications for the Center City District. Here, some of the Collection’s longtime collaborators talk about trends, parties, and new designers.
Dana Bank Owner, TownHome “We are excited to announce some new well-known designers during that week, as well as showcase some of their collections. Stacked bracelets continue to be a huge trend for fall.”
Sarah Van Aken Founder and Designer, SA VA “Our style party will be the official release of our Fall 2013 collection, which was inspired by modern urban architecture, with distinct angles and textures combined with our sensibility for sustainable design. You can expect to see some incredible dresses, sultry prints, and accents of leather everywhere this year.”
Mary K. Dougherty Owner, Nicole Miller Philadelphia and Mary K. Dougherty & Associates “The Philadelphia Collection inspired me to create the XIX Most Fashionable Women in Philadelphia event in 2010. The honorees are selected for their contributions to Philadelphia and philanthropy and for their sense of style. Nicole Miller’s 2013 Fall collection features black fitted silhouettes layered with colorful geo-metric tops and digital-patterned [pieces].”
Kerry Scott Cofounder, FBH The Agency, and Coproducer and Cofounder, Philly Fashion Week “We will be celebrating Philly Fashion Week’s 10th season during The Philadelphia Collection, and we couldn’t be more excited. Philly Fashion Week will feature national and international designers like Teranchula, Trisha Will, and Bianca Rachele.”
Sharon Phillips Waxman President, SPW Productions, and Founder and Executive Producer, PhashionPhest “PhashionPhest is celebrating its 20th anniversary on the last day of The Philadelphia Collection, at The Shops at Liberty Place. Every year we do a different theme—we’ve done everything from ‘Fashion Odyssey’ to ‘Runway on the Street’—and this year we will do a whole retrospective of the last 19 years.”
Nigel Richards Founder and Designer, 611 “I’ve been participating in The Philadelphia Collection since 2011, and it’s provided a really cool platform for me to showcase my menswear and also represent the hyperlocal niche here in Philly. 611 will be participating in The Oval’s Shopping Day Out on September 21, a collaborative event that features more than 20 local designers and retailers.”
Deanna Williams Media Relations Director, Macy’s “Our annual fall fashion presentation will feature our top designers and introduce new brands exclusive to Macy’s—QMack and Maison Jules—and it may include the designers of the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator, who have a workspace here at the store during their one-year residence. We are truly committed to supporting the communities that we serve.”
