As the season kicks off, so does this slugger’s contributions to the city, on and off the field.
Philadelphians know Kyle Schwarber as the affable starting left fielder for the Phillies. They also know him as a home run king, leading the National League in home runs in 2022 and contributing to the Phillies’ appearance in that year’s World Series. But what they might not know about is his charity, Schwarber’s Neighborhood Heroes, an organization whose mission is to shed light on the importance of first responders by creating positive experiences and funding wellness, education and crisis needs for first responder families. Thus far, over 550 families have been helped and more than $625,000 has been granted to nonprofits that support its mission. You can get a chance to meet Schwarber at his charity’s upcoming annual Schwarber’s Block Party (schwarbersneighborhoodheroes.org), but if you can’t make it, here’s some insight into what makes this slugger tick.
