A trio of colorful cocktails from La Chinesca
DINE
What do you get when you transform a forgotten Jiffy Lube station in the city’s Spring Arts neighborhood into an indoor-outdoor dining experience boasting major retro design vibes serving Mexicali dishes with Chinese American flair? That would be La Chinesca (lachinescaphl.com), the latest concept from Michael and Jeniphur Pasquarello of 13th Street Kitchens. Opened in June, Nicholas Bazik and David Goody oversee La Chinesca’s shareable fare, inspired by the pair’s pre-pandemic travels through northern Mexico’s Baja region: pineapple-kissed kampachi crudo, salt-and-pepper squid Caesar flecked with sesame seeds, and indulgent quesa birria tacos. Stick to specialty cocktails like the Michelada and the tequila-grapefruit On Empty to wash it all down.
Boyds Philadelphia is now carrying posh Parisian label Jacquemus.
SHOP
If you need a reason to revive your lackluster wardrobe, Boyds Philadelphia (boydsphila.com) has five. The legendary Center City department store has a roster of new contemporary labels ripped straight from Paris runways and New York City sidewalks for fall. Gabriela Hearst, JW Anderson and Khaite are celeb-approved essentials. Two of the most exciting additions are Letanne and Jacquemus, both Boyds exclusives in Philadelphia. Missy Dietz, director of new business development, says that these Parisian fashion houses represent some of the season’s biggest trends. “Jacquemus is one of the hottest designers in fashion, renowned for its vibrant color palette, and Letanne’s luxury sweaters are one of our favorites this season.”

Veteran Philadelphia hairstylist Jen Bisicchia, whose work has appeared in Vogue, Allure and The Wall Street Journal, has struck out on her own with a new Society Hill beauty concept called Be.Nue Studio (msha.ke/benuestudio). Joined by fellow stylist and friend Kaitlynn Gannon, the pair have opened the city’s first sustainably sourced salon suite. The full range of B Corp haircare line Davines lines the shelves of the boho-meets-California-cool space, where Bisicchia and Gannon create of-the-moment looks thanks to custom color, precision cutting and various extension techniques.
