Fourth Friday on Fourth Street (Friday, October 25, 5-9 p.m.) combines the community’s best live music, visual arts, and shopping into a monthly festival that includes events and specials hosted by area businesses. Matt DiGennaro, talented photographer and owner of local salon Ground Zero South, is one of Fourth Friday’s featured artists this weekend.
DiGennaro hosts an exhibition of his latest pictures of cityscapes and urban disrepair in “From Behind the Chair to Behind the Lens v2.0,” at the Red Hook Coffee and Tea Shop. “I look at everything with a creative perspective. While many people see abandoned spaces, [or] graffiti as an eyesore, I see an artistic opportunity,” says DiGennaro who uses his salon as a makeshift gallery for displaying his prints. From landscapes to candid shots, all of DiGennaro’s work is influenced by his favorite motto: “Take only pictures, leave only footprints, kill only time.”
Work from 10 other Philadelphia artists will be featured in this Fourth Friday installment. The over 25 businesses involved include Bella Boutique, Wilbur Vintage, Moon & Arrow, and Lil’ Pop Shop, and the festival will also feature live music. The event runs every fourth Friday, and has come to include businesses throughout the South St./Head House districts. Lombard St. to Queen St.
