We all know about the PSLs, beers, and pies, but if you’ve thought of pumpkin as only a beverage or dessert, you’re in for a surprise. There are loads of savory dishes featuring fall's most famous gourd, and now is the time to try them all. Read on for the can’t-miss dishes of the season, hand-picked by our friends at Yelp.
Grab a bottle or two and head to this tried-and-true Old City gem for their seasonal roasted pumpkin and ricotta ravioli, topped with brown sage butter, dried cranberries, toasted pepitas, and asiago cheese. The restaurant is open Wednesdays through Sundays, and reservations are not accepted. 232 Arch St., 215-629-2337
At Kabul Afghan Cuisine in Old City, you’ll find several dishes featuring pumpkin throughout the menu. Start with the bulanee kadu: turnovers stuffed with spiced pumpkin and onions. Next, check out the chalaw kadu, an entree featuring spiced, sauteed pumpkin served over rice. 106 Chestnut St., 215-922-3676
The pumpkin salad at Lo Spiedo is a crazy-delicious starter to share, or a perfect, light meal on its own. Topped with aged goat cheese and pumpkin vinaigrette, we guarantee this is one dish you’ll want as often as possible this fall—and one you’ll long for when it’s no longer in season. 4503 S. Broad St., 215-282-3184
This neighborhood staple has been around long before Graduate Hospital was being described as "up and coming." And they're still serving the same spicy pumpkin soup with chicken that earned them accolades in their early days. My Thai is highly recommended for a relaxing weeknight dinner with no waits and some of the friendliest service around. 2200 South St., 215-985-1878
Though the menu changes almost daily, you can always expect chef Chris Kearse to use the freshest ingredients of the season. Get yourself to East Passyunk Avenue ASAP in order to catch the pumpkin Parisian gnocchi, a dish that will surely satisfy. But blink, and you’ll miss it! 1911 E. Passyunk Ave., 215-271-7683
