Alana Oates puts her best foot forward with chic shoe label Llani.
Alana Oates is kicking up her heels—literally—thanks to a Kickstarter campaign that helped launch her new shoe label, Llani.
Rising designer Alana Oates has combined her love of sparkle, vintage glamour, and comfort into her debut footwear label, Llani. The Moore College of Art grad and former designer for Old Navy and Anthropologie recently launched her first collection for Holiday 2016 with beaded, tasseled, and hand-sequined slides, flats, and slippers: Women get to be cozy and chic whether they are dashing to the store for some bubbly or padding around their bedroom at night.
Home is more important than ever for Oates. After splitting time between San Francisco and Haddonfield, NJ, for the last two years, while she relaunched Old Navy’s shoe line and did the long-distance relationship thing with her fiancé, Oates just tied the knot in October at a seaside wedding in Cape May and settled into a 100-year-old two-story home in South Jersey.
“I wanted to bring luxury into the home,” says Oates, who unfailingly sports a parade of retro-chic shoes around her own residence. Having spent years combing through Indian trim markets in Delhi, Mumbai, and Agra for her previous employers, Oates knows exactly what will give her designs that distinctive, on-trend, globally influenced look. “I partnered with vendors in India who continually wow me with the embellishments and embroideries they can supply. My shoes all feel special.” And good news, guys: Oates is adding men’s designs to her 2017 collection.
