Support These Local City Retailers This Holiday Season

By Abby Dupes | December 11, 2020 | Style & Beauty

Find a gift for everyone on your list by shopping at our favorite Philly boutiques.

Some of the city’s most notable tastemakers are often seen donning pieces from LAGOS, which is known for its classic caviar-style beading by Steven Lagos. Dazzle your special someone with Caviar Gold Hoop Earrings, or upgrade their smartwatch with Smart Caviar, the jeweler’s signature watch bracelets.

Nicole Miller

Looking for cozy cashmere, fashionable face masks and winter accessories? Head to Mary Dougherty’s Manayunk boutique. The Main Street steward has been appearing on fashionista’s wish lists for over 25 years thanks to famed American designer Nicole Miller’s playfully patterned pieces and sophisticated silhouettes.

On 20th and Chestnut streets lies a fashion-forward boutique lined with the latest looks and accessories hand-picked for trendsetters in the city—and all for under $100. Launched in 2015, the store has become a huge success with high follower counts on social media and influencer approval.

Egan Day

Tucked inside of The Rittenhouse hotel, this luxury lifestyle boutique and flower shop is filled with owner Kate Egan’s favorite things. Neutral colors and natural decor are a blank canvas for highlighting artisan-made luxury jewelry, eclectic tabletop pieces and coffee table books. Over 20 artists are showcased at Egan Day—including award-winning designer Nada Ghazal and Japanese designer Hirotaka.

Joan Shepp

Everyone knows that Rittenhouse is home to the most high-end retailers in the city, and Joan Shepp has been at the top of the list for decades. If you are looking for high fashion, they have it—think Balenciaga, Maison Margiela and Comme des Garçons.

Award-winning event and floral business Evantine Design’s boutique is filled with bouquets, fine home gifts and novelty items. Festive finds line the shelves, stylistically mirroring the creative vision of the owner, Brian Kappra.

Harriett’s Bookshop

With COVID-19 keeping us at home, there is no better time to give someone a book. Support this black-owned, women-centric bookshop in Fishtown named after heroine Harriet Tubman. Owner, writer and educator Jeannine A. Cook has curated shelves of the best up and coming literature.

Open House

Put some Brotherly Love under the tree this year thanks to Open House’s charming Philadelphia-themed pieces, including their hand-embroidered city-themed pillows and Gritty plushies. If you aren’t sold on the Philly theme for presents, choose from quirky and playful items like novelty cat puzzles and pun-filled cocktail recipe books.

Born and raised in Philadelphia, owner Shannon Maldonado knew that the city was the perfect place for her lifestyle and home goods boutique to grow. Bright colors and minimalistic art fill the airy shop on Queen Village’s Fabric Row. On our wishlist? The limited-edition Domenic Frunzi planters and art prints by Laurie Maun.

Kindred Collective

West Coast meets East Coast in this free-spirited Old City boutique. Shop for elevated and cozy casual wear from brands like Free People and Wildfox—a perfect gift for your friends and family working from home. Exclusively for the holidays, they are carrying festive graphic tees and winter-themed tableware that will make the season merry and bright.

Kin Boutique

Check off your holiday shopping list from the comfort of your home thanks to owner Joey Clark’s virtual and in-person styling appointments. Consultants are ready to assist you in your quest to find the perfect present for everyone on your list, whether that be PICHULIK jewelry, Estelle wine glasses, HVISK bags and more. Of course, you can always treat yourself to something along the way.
