Wet goods like shampoo and conditioner were the starting point for the Calista Tools brand; they've since branched out.
As the fashion world embraces the notion of American-made clothing and accessories, the beauty industry is following suit. Philadelphia is a key player in this movement, with many local spas and salons introducing brands of their own.
Tantini Tanning Bar
One of Philly’s newest product lines, Bottle Service, comes from Tantini Tanning Bar (172 William L. Dalton Dr., Glassboro, NJ, 856-582-0826) owner and president Sonya Bright, who celebrated the four-year anniversary of her first salon last month. “I always strive to be innovative in my field, and developing my own line of tanning products and cosmetics is something I have been thinking about doing for quite some time,” says Bright of her recently launched duo of tanning lotions.
Bright chose to debut her line with two products to start: Bronzed Have More Fun and Young and Naked. The first is a toning, skin-tightening bronzer with BB cream, while the latter is an all-natural, DHA-free bronzer with anti-aging and firming properties. Neither formula will streak or stain your skin and both are super hydrating, a key factor for effective tanning. “Moisturized and hydrated skin is going to absorb the UV rays quicker, which leads to a deeper, darker, longer-lasting tan,” says Bright, adding that affordability and quality of ingredients were of the utmost importance in creating her products.
Calista Grand Salon and Spa
For Calista Grand Salon and Spa’s (1211 Wilmington Pike, West Chester, 610-399-6677) co-owner Donald Moore, it was also about bringing the finest quality products into his clients’ homes. “My partner, Maria McCool, and I had a vision of developing a product line that was designed to help simplify the consumer experience for achieving that ‘just left the salon look,’” Moore says of the salon’s Calista Tools line.
Launching on QVC in 2007, Calista Tools began with wet goods, such as shampoos, conditioners, styling products, and sprays, before transitioning into high-tech styling tools, like the popular Perfecter Fusion Styler.
Dr. Steven L. Davis of Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery
In the skincare arena, Dr. Steven L. Davis of Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery (1916 Route 70 E., Ste. #1, Cherry Hill, NJ, 856-424-1700) is offering clients the Davis Rx line, an extensive range of potent products for all skin types and issues. From cleansers and brightening serums to blemish wands and exfoliating pads, the Davis Rx products contain medical-grade, highly concentrated ingredients that work together to create positive results.
“With the tremendous amount of research and information that has been discovered about skin health and the causes of aging skin, we now know what works,” says Davis. “So, I took these ingredients and put them in skincare products and made them affordable and easy to use for both men and women.”
