On April 7, 2018, The Academy of Vocal Arts hosted The 2018 Viva la Volce! Gala at the National Museum of American Jewish History. Attendees enjoyed a cocktail party before participating in a silent auction and viewing the Leonard Bernstein: Power of Music exhibit (on display through September 2). During the dinner portion of the evening, resident artists performed musical selections by Leonard Bernstein including songs from West Side Story. AVA honored Carole Haas Gravagno with the AVA Distinguished Achievement in the Arts Award, and Walter M. Strine, Jr., with the AVA Board of Directors Outstanding Service Award. All funds raised benefited the AVA Scholarship Fund, which gives youth artists the opportunity to become the voices of opera's future.
