As Philadelphians gear up for the yearly ritual that is Center City Sips(now through September 2), we’ve curated a list of our top 10 favorite spots to visit during the much-anticipated, summer-long event.
Rosemary lemonade at Davio's.
Davio’s Nothern Italian Steakhouse This fine-dining restaurant is a go-to for some of the city’s most prominent movers and shakers. This summer, make a point to try its rosemary lemonade; the Sips special is a clever concoction of fresh-squeezed lemonade, New Amsterdam, and a fresh rosemary sprig. 111 S. 17th St., 215-563-4810
Charlie was a sinner. The lentil sloppy joe and zucchini ceviche from this venerable all-veggie eatery are delicious enough to convince anyone to go meatless, but if you're just craving a cocktail, stop by for Charlie’s Punch or the Lady Jane, a whiskey and green tea-infused simple syrup cocktail, both specially priced. 131 S. 13th St., 267-758-5372
Spring Garden cocktail at Penn 6.
Pennsylvania 6 Next time you pop in for the mini lobster roll stuffed with fresh Maine lobster, pair it with the Sips Spring Garden cocktail, a blend of gin, lavender water, muddled berries, tonic, and lemon. 114 S. 12th St.; 267-639-5606
Sampan Restaurant In addition to exclusively priced house wines, Sampan will offer some of its favorite dishes as Sips specials. Keep an eye out for the Korean barbecue beef and grilled shrimp satay, pork bánh mi, and a selection of dumplings, including edamame, pork, mushroom, and beef. 122 S. 13th St., 215-732-3501
Independence Beer Garden One of Michael Schulson’s newest ventures, this popular summertime spot is centrally located in the city’s most historic area. Besides its exclusively priced beers, the garden will feature ginger bombs and strawberry cider during Sips, and look out for shareable snacks like pickle chips, seasoned popcorn, hummus, and cheese curds. At Sixth and Ranstead Streets, 215-922-7100
Cocktails at Rosa Blanca.
Rosa Blanca Café at Dilworth Park Take in the scenery at one of the city’s newest alfresco spots. In addition to its impressive array of Cuban fare, including sandwiches, pastries, and Cuban coffee, Sips attendees can try the Dilworth Rum Punch: a spiced rum and white tea punch that pairs perfectly with any of Chef Garces’ signature empanadas. 1400 Market St., 215-597-2761
MilkBoy Philadelphia During Sips, this restaurant and music venue will offer two drink specials to accompany its nachos and buffalo wings apps: The MilkBoy Ruby Red Shandy and a whiskey, pineapple juice, and honey mixture called The Pharmacist. 1100 Chestnut St., 215-925-6455
A-Murican Derby cocktail at Garces Trading Company.
Garces Trading Company The incredibly popular cheese and charcuterie plates are the perfect accompaniment to the European bistro’s Sips specials. Whether you order the King’s Claret Punch or the A-Murican Derby (Jim Beam, grapefruit, white balsamic, and honey shrub), expect to leave in complete satisfaction. 111 Locust St., 215-574-1099
Bank & Bourbon Aptly named The B&B Sour, we strongly suggest pairing this whiskey, caraway-infused Petite Sirah cocktail with the restaurant's petite board of ham, which features Benton ham of Tennessee, goat butter, and crusty bread. Loews Philadelphia Hotel, 1200 Market St., 215-231-7300
The Treemont This Sips newbie promises impressive cocktails to go along with its chickpea fritter and spiced yogurt appetizer. We suggest the Noble Bachelor made with 2Gingers whiskey, Averna, and Demerara. We’ll take one of each. 231 S. 15th St., 267-687-2237
