No summer shore house? No problem. You’ll feel like you’re on holiday in your own city at one of the lovely, smartly designed beer gardens around Philadelphia. Grab your friends and scout out a table at one of these top spots for outdoor drinks from our friends at Yelp.
The crowds are massive, meaning the people-watching is fantastic at Independence Beer Garden. If you’re lucky enough to score seating, enjoy it! If not, check out one of the many games scattered throughout the 20,000-square-foot space overlooking Independence Mall. 100 S. Independence Mall W.
You can’t beat the views from this German biergarten in the sky. Two large outdoor terraces located 50 stories above ground provide incredible bird's-eye views, while you enjoy some suds with the wind blowing in your hair. 1717 Arch St., 51st Fl.
If you're rolling deep, consider heading to Fishtown. One of the first beer gardens on the scene, Frankford Hall continues to be a destination for day drinks and great times. Summer in Philly isn’t complete without a day at Frankford, with a liter of hefeweizen, a giant pretzel, and a rousing game of Jenga. 1210 Frankford Ave.
The PHS (Pennsylvania Horticultural Society) Pop Up Gardens have become a summertime staple for Philadelphians. New this year is the soon-to-open uCity Square location at 36th and Filbert, promising "breathtaking garden views and flowers galore." Meanwhile, the returning South Street Garden is open for business, offering sanctuary just a block off of Broad. 1438 South St.
We almost didn’t reveal our final pick, an under-the-radar gem that we're a little reluctant to give away. But we have to give props to the quaint and cozy beer garden that Memphis Taproom rolls out during the summer months. Back for its seventh year, the garden will now feature the full indoor menu in addition to the hot dog menu from the stationary truck outside. 2331 E. Cumberland St.
