Superhero fans flock to the convention center for Wizard World Comic Con this June to catch their favorite stars in action—and in costume.
It’s a star... it’s a fan... it’s Comic Con! Superfans relish their chance to dress the part.
Whether or not you’re inclined to throw on a bat suit when heading to Center City, the idea of meeting caped and costumed celebrities from the worlds of TV and film can bring out the fangirl or fanboy in the best of us.
This June 2–5, the Philadelphia Convention Center offers just such an opportunity when Wizard World Comic Con comes to town, bringing with it a bevy of action stars—think Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Michael J. Fox, and David Duchovny—poised to pose for pictures and sign autographs.
Think Comic Con’s just for kids? Not so, says fan favorite Jason David Frank, better known to Mighty Morphin Power Ranger devotees as Tommy Oliver or the Green Ranger. “Comic Con is a fun, family-atmosphere event for everybody,” says the seventh-degree black belt (he runs a chain of karate schools) and self-described “people person.” While Frank got his start as a Power Ranger back in the ’90s, he says that Netflix and social media have reenergized fans, who are now mostly in their 20s and 30s and have kids of their own. “You have to go check it out,” he urges to those who’ve yet to let their fan flag fly. “You get to see your favorite stars; you get toys and comic books. It’s just a great place for people to get out and to be a kid again.”
