Whether poolside in the city or sunbathing at the beach, try lush eyelash extensions on for size this summer.
Summer beauty has always been associated with sun-kissed skin, wind-swept curls, and natural makeup—but what’s not so natural is sweeping on thick coats of waterproof mascara to prevent raccoon eyes by the pool. Enter eyelash extensions, a beauty treatment that’s having a major moment in Philadelphia right now thanks to a boom in lash bars. “Extensions are perfect for the summer,” says Anjali Bhatia, cofounder of LashBee in Center City, adding that clients can swim and spend time in the sun without worrying. “Plus, they really do look natural.” Eyelash extensions have gained popularity recently thanks to new luxury products and lash menus. “It’s been a popular service for our salons for nearly 10 years now, but this past year business has skyrocketed thanks to our new lash line,” says Sam Lehman, president of Adolf Biecker Spa/Salon, which has addresses in Center City, University City, and on the Main Line. “We offer two types of lashes, synthetic and genuine mink. The mink is the most luxurious.” The application process—extensions are attached one-by-one to individual lashes—takes upwards of two hours, and extensions can last up to four weeks. Whichever style you chose, one thing is for sure—summer beauty will be a breeze. Says Bhatia: “It’s incredible to wake up in the morning and be ready to go.”
