You and a couple of your mates are planning your next memorable boys’ weekend, one you wish to reminisce on for years to come. Fashion consultant and founder of Men’s Style Pro blog, Sabir Peele, was in the same mindset when he brought his two closest mates along for a weekend escape from Philly’s bustling city life. From incredible outdoor adventures in the vast wilderness to low-key unwinding with a cigar or cocktail in hand (one in each hand preferably), Sabir shares with Modern Luxury why Nemacolin is the ultimate destination for your next winter luxe boy’s trip this season.
A short drive from Philly, Sean, Josiah and I packed up our bags and headed to Nemacolin for a winter weekend in the lush Laurel Highlands. The Chateau offers gorgeous lodging, we headed downstairs to one of the boutiques for a fresh pair of clothes. Treated to champagne with good tunes and new swag, the boys and I knew this trip was off to a great start.
We popped over to The Peak for a fun go at axe throwing, the perfect bonding experience for three energetic guys like us. The lanes vibrantly glowed with dark targets to take our aim. I won two of the three games and now consider myself a certified axe throwing champion. After a bit of friendly competition, we ended the night upstairs at The Peak restaurant with a flavorful dry rubbed chicken and perogies which were cooked to perfection.
The following morning, room service breakfast was too tempting to pass up. I may have gone a bit overboard: I ordered avocado toast tartine with sausage, two eggs, a green goddess smoothie and a coffee. It was definitely worth it; each delicious bite was better than the last. Surprisingly, we broke a sweat in the gym afterwards and were ready for a great day.
The guys and I enjoyed an off-roading excursion in a JEEP with our instructor. Each one of us got to drive the JEEP on a test course before traveling deep into the wooden terrain. Climbing the slick rocky hills, navigating the sharp jagged turns and stopping on a forty-degree angle was quite an adrenaline rush. We had a good laugh about our wilderness adventure over old-fashioned cocktails at the nearby Amber Bar before ordering savory Maine lobster rolls and Hot & Honey Chicken sandwiches.
Well-fed and craving more competition, Sean, Josiah and I shuttled over to the The Nemacolin Golf Academy to play some TrackMan with a golf pro. We entered a virtual golf match on Shepherd's Rock where we took turns relaxing in the cozy cognac leather coaches while waiting to swing next. A big dinner awaited us at Rockwell’s where we feasted like kings on tomahawk steak, elk and lamb chops. Please do yourself a favor and order The Breakfast Old-Fashioned: it’s only available in the restaurant. We capped off our night at The Cigar Bar at The Chateau where we socialized with other friendly guests over cigars and whiskey cocktails.
Our final day at Nemacolin was filled with just as much fun as we hit up the paintball target range. It was my first time shooting a paintball gun on the target practice course and our game was just as competitive as our previous activities. Lastly, we went on a private tour of the animal habitats getting up close and personal with the bison and Bengal tigers, Gideon and Kira. Immersed in nature, reveling in sportsmanship and savoring culinary delights made Nemacolin the trip of a lifetime for the boys and I.
